Tile Collections

Porcelain Tile Adds to Urban Design

Two Italian porcelain tile collections contribute to the overall “industrial meets pop-art” vibe of the interior shared spaces of a Brooklyn, NY, multi-family residential building

Rheingold-Bushwick is a multi-family residential building in the northern section of Brooklyn, NY. Designed by Durukan Design Studio, the eight-story, 350,000-square-foot structure features many shared spaces for residents to relax and socialize. The interior design of these areas – featuring two varieties of tile from Ceramiche Refin – is defined by an overarching “industrial meets pop-art” feel that pays tribute to Bushwick’s artistic sensibilities, while evoking its industrial roots.

The double-height lobby showcases iron shipping containers repurposed as gathering areas, brightly colored ottomans and a soaring green wall, which all combine to create a central hub for occupants. Meanwhile, custom large-scale graffiti walls painted by local artists and heavily stylized “artways” conjure the neighborhood’s colorful alleyways while also creating a high-end finish and feel. The two porcelain tile collections from Ceramiche Refin specified by the design team complement the project’s industrial aesthetic. Design Industry, inspired by the aesthetic of oxidized metals, and Plant, combining the characteristics of wood and cement, were employed throughout the floors and walls of the public spaces and amenity zones of the building.
